Frankincense and Myrrh - Honor & Surrender - Scent: Soft & Refreshing
Frankincense and myrrh both appear numerous times throughout Scripture as part of temple ceremonies, burials and purification rituals. Let the lasting scent of this anointing oil be a constant call to prayer, a reminder of God’s presence and a symbol of your surrender to Him. Scripture references oils hundreds of times with dozens of references to frankincense or myrrh specifically. Both were given as gifts by the Wise Men at Jesus’s birth, a symbol of His deity, priesthood and sacrifice for our sins. (Matthew 2:11)
Rose of Sharon - Joy & Love - Scent: Floral & Bold
We give flowers as gifts for their beauty, fragrance and the joy. Rose of Sharon is a sweet-smelling, hibiscus-like flower native to the Mediterranean, and it has become synonymous with Christ Himself. The bright floral aroma of the Rose of Sharon is a beautiful symbol of the presence of Christ and the pure joy He brings. A perfect “just because” fragrance to remember the love of Christ in our lives. The Rose of Sharon is referenced in Song of Solomon: “I [am] the Rose of Sharon, [and] the lily of the valleys.” (2:1).
Lily Of The Valley - Purity & Beauty - Scent: Floral & Light
Lilies are known for their exquisiteness and pure white color, symbolizing beauty and purity. In Song of Solomon, we see “lily of the valley” referenced in poetry, the writer describing his love as a lily among thorns – something pure that stands out from the harshness around it. Lilies appear in the Sermon on the Mount, when Jesus says: "Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin. And yet I say unto you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” (Matthew 6:28-29).
Latter Rain - Provision & Harvest - Scent: Fresh & Airy
Throughout Scripture, rain is associated with God’s provision, both physical and spiritual as a source of provision and preparation for harvest. The “latter rain” was the rain that ripened the harvest. The analogy of a farmer waiting for the harvest is associated with believers waiting for the coming of the Lord: “Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains.” (James 5:7).
Spikenard - Devotion & Worship - Scent: Spicy & Complex
The story of Mary anointing Jesus is told twice in Scripture, in John and Mark: "Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus' feet and wiped his feet with her hair. and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume." (John 12:3). Spikenard comes from a plant native to the Himalayas, making it rare, expensive and prized in Mary's day. Today, this fragrance reminds us that Jesus is our anchor, and we should pour ourselves out in worship of Him.
Pomegranate - Righteousness & Abundance - Scent: Fruity & Sweet
Not only are pomegranates rich in color and flavor, but throughout Scripture, they appear on items associated with royalty: robes, crowns, temples and coins. This ancient, robust fragrance serves as a reminder of the “unfathomable riches” we have in Christ and the righteousness only He can offer us, as He covers our sin and changes our hearts. In the Old Testament, God told Moses to embroider the bottom of the High Priest’s robe with blue, purple and scarlet pomegranates. (Exodus 28:33-34)
Hyssop - Purity & Renewal - Scent: Clean & Crisp
The scent of hyssop evokes a sense of cleanliness, purity and new beginnings. It is a beautiful reminder of God’s forgiveness and grace and an encouraging aroma for those in need of refreshment and renewal. During the first passover, hyssop branches were used to apply lamb’s blood to the doorways of the Israelites, telling the Angel of Death to pass over their homes (Exodus 12:22). In the Psalms, David implores God to cleanse him of his sins, asking God to “cleanse him with hyssop.” (Psalm 51:7)
Unscented
For those who prefer no scent, we offer fragrance-free anointing oil made from pure olive oil. Olive oil was the common base for biblical anointing oils and perfumes, as well as a critical part of daily biblical life, used for medicine, food, and in lamps for light. Perfect for those who may be sensitive to fragrance. Anointing oil is mentioned dozens of times in Scripture, many times without reference to a specific fragrance.
